On behalf of Fernwood Parish Council, I am pleased to provide below an update regarding the land between Fernwood Day Nursery and Pine Close/Denny Close.

  • The Council’s purchase of the land has been delayed as we were unable to get a clear map of the land the current landowner was prepared to sell.
  • The Council has now received a plan and at the Parish Council meeting last night the Council agreed to proceed with the purchase.
  • The area to be purchased includes the grassed area up to the back of the properties on Marron Court.
  • We recognise that the area requires attention but until the purchase has been finalised, we are not in a position to do this. The current landowner is responsible for this for now.
  • We understand that the bin in the area which was maintained by FirstPort was moved due to vandalism. The Parish Council will look to install 2 vandal proof bins and a dog bin once the ownership has been transferred.
  • When we are close to the deal being finalised, we will get in touch with those people who expressed an interest in being involved with an action group for the area.
  • We are aware that 2 of the streetlamps in the area have not been working for some time. Once the purchase has been completed, we will get these fixed.

To confirm the reasons for the Parish Council proceeding with this purchase: The footpath and streetlights can be better maintained; The trees can be managed/preserved to keep them safe for Fernwood residents; The Council can maintain the area in a way which is best for maintaining the natural habitat for flora and fauna.

I hope this clarifies the situation. Should you have any queries or suggestions, please contact me via email: [email protected]
